Ipswich Town continue to pursue Real Betis’ Nelson Deossa this summer.
On May 29th, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Ipswich Town had entered the race for the midfielder.
Three days later, we relayed news that River Plate joined the English club in the transfer battle.
Real Betis invested $17m [€14.6m, likely including bonuses] to sign Deossa from Mexican side CF Monterrey in August 2025.
He played 1,491 minutes from 33 matches and lost prominence in the second half of this season.
Ipswich Town told fee for signing
Tuesday’s edition of ABC Sevilla covers Real Betis’ stance and the Tractor Boys’ interest in Nelson Deossa.
Manuel Pellegrini finished the season with eight midfielders, of which only Sofyan Amrabat was on loan. Pablo Fornals, Isco and Álvaro Fidalgo have their places secured for next season while the rest have uncertain futures.
This includes the Colombia international and Sergi Altimira, and the Andalusian club are ready to part ways with the duo.
Deossa has so far attracted interest from Ipswich Town and River Plate, but neither have tabled a bid.
The Spanish club are expecting the 26-year-old’s suitors to make offers in the coming days.
Real Betis still have €10m to amortise and that’s the fee they are asking to sell the South American.
The English club can afford that, especially after returning to the top flight. The question is whether they will offer that amount for the midfielder.
New Ipswich Town manager to have a say
Kieran McKenna guided the Tractor Boys to a direct promotion to the Premier League after finishing second in the Championship.
However, McKenna stepped down from his role and Ipswich Town have to appoint his successor.
The incoming manager is likely to play a big part in whether the English club will offer €10m for Nelson Deossa. He has a contract until 2030, and Transfermarkt value him at €9m.
There’s also the possibility of Ipswich Town trying to sign Deossa on loan with an obligation to buy if they avoid relegation. This would be possible if there are no other convincing offers.
