Ipswich Town saw a late bid for Marcelo Flores rejected by Tigres, as it was too late in the transfer window for the Mexican side to consider.

That’s according to journalist Omar Zeron, with his information on the failed transfer relayed by newspaper AS.

Ipswich had a busy summer after securing promotion last season, bringing in 12 new players for an outlay of €126.49m to strengthen Kieran McKenna’s squad.

They were particularly active at the end of the window, moving to secure late deals, but it seems they were unable to get one man they wanted.

According to Zeron, Ipswich presented a formal offer to Tigres for midfielder Marcelo Flores. The nature of the bid isn’t made clear, just that a formal proposal was sent to the Mexican club.

Unfortunately for the Tractor Boys, the proposal was declined because it arrived so late in the window. Because it was the end of the window, they felt the conditions were not ideal and so turned it down immediately.

That brought an end to the idea for Ipswich, although it remains to be seen if they return in future for the midfielder.

The 20-year-old, who was once highly rated in Arsenal’s youth sides, returned to Mexico last season and has managed nine goals and two assists in 38 games since then.

That’s apparently enough to have aroused interest back in Europe and from Ipswich, who were unable to convince Tigres to sell late in the window.
