Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche has hinted at an interest in Brighton and Hove Albion star Pascal Groß as he looks for a midfielder in the summer.

Fussball Transfers cover comments from the Frankfurt director to Kicker, with him determined to add a midfielder with leadership qualities to his squad.

They explain that Frankfurt have ‘quickly outlined’ their plans for the summer transfer window, despite it being a few months away, with that aforementioned midfielder at the top of their list.

Manager Dino Toppmöller recently confirmed that the club were looking for a central midfielder, particularly a defensive midfielder, with that area of the team having been something of a problem one for them.

Krösche has now gone into further detail on the matter and, while refusing to name the Brighton man as the one they’d want, openly admitted he’s an “interesting player” who may be on their list.

“It is a very complex position because on the one hand you need good defensive discipline, but also resistance to pressing,” he said.

“You also have to find footballing solutions and show a certain level of consistency. It’s not easy to find a player like that. You can also see that this is a very sought-after position in many top teams. The situation on the market is correspondingly difficult.

“(Groß is) an interesting player. (It) is never about nationalities. It’s certainly nice when we have a lot of German players, that’s to some extent our goal. But nationality in itself is not relevant, it is always about quality.

“You can also be a leader if you don’t yet speak German, as English is to some extent the language in the locker room.”

The big question is whether Brighton would allow Groß to leave in the summer. His current deal expires in 2025, so this year is the last one in which they can make money from a sale if he doesn’t renew his deal.

He has admitted openly he’d be interested in a move elsewhere, indeed he did so last month, and perhaps that has been noted by Krösche and co.
