Alex Meret’s potential move to Napoli to Tottenham Hotspur is being taken as a possible scenario by the Italian media.
Some comments on that hypothesis are today made by Ciro Venerato, who spoke to 1 Station Radio (via Area Napoli) about the goalkeeper’s situation at the Serie A side.
“Do Napoli monitor any goalkeepers, even to replace Alex Meret? Yes, even if the club hopes the Friulian will remain. There is an interest, especially in recent months, from Tottenham in the Azzurri goalkeeper,” said Ciro Venerato.
“For this reason, the Neapolitan club has followed Vicario, who is on Inter’s list, also thanks to the possible sale of Onana. My opinion, however, is that the goalkeeper for Napoli next season will be Alex Meret.”
Tottenham’s links with Meret have been out in the Italian media since January, and it’s in the past few weeks that we’ve been seeing more reports about Spurs moving to get the signing done despite all the chaos taking place in the manager and director of football roles.
It’s recently been claimed that the London side are ‘determined‘ to get the transfer done, with Napoli already expecting that the offer from the Premier League club ‘will arrive’.
The Serie A side are expected to demand over €40m for Meret, so that’s a price Tottenham need to be prepared to pay.
Now since Venerato claims the Italian club are hopeful of holding him, it seems the player will also have a say on his future, and Spurs will need to convince him before getting to a potential deal with Napoli.
