On February 1st, journalist Ciro Venerato reported Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Napoli’s Alex Meret.
Earlier this month, NapoliCalcioLive stated Spurs are determined to replace Hugo Lloris with Meret as their first choice goalkeeper next season.
La Repubblica, relayed by Area Napoli, state Tottenham have taken steps to carry out a potential deal for the 26-year-old in the summer.
The Premier League side have ‘asked for information’ about the possibility of signing the Italy international.
Spurs have received a response from the stopper and the Naples club. It’s claimed both have ‘asked for time’ as any discussion over Meret’s future has been postponed until the end of the season.
Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has scheduled an appointment with the player’s agent, Federico Pastorello, to discuss his future.
The goalkeeper has a deal until 2024 and the report says there are two possibilities. Meret either signs a long-term contract at the Italian club or his agent will ‘evaluate’ the offers that ‘will arrive’ from the Premier League, including one from Tottenham.
If Napoli fail to tie down Meret to a new deal, there’s expectation Tottenham could make an offer for him.
There should be more clarity on this case after Pastorello’s meeting Giuntoli.
