On April 13th, we covered claims made in Argentina that Manchester United have sent scouts to watch Enzo Fernández in action for River Plate.
A day later, Olé explained the Red Devils have ‘entered the race’ for the midfielder, but a move would depend on incoming manager Erik ten Hag giving the ‘go ahead’.
The 21-year-old was quizzed about several reports linking him to Manchester United and he refused to rule out making a switch to Old Trafford.
Argentine journalist Gustavo Yarroch has now provided a fresh update on the player’s situation during ESPN Fútbol Argentina’s Fútbol 90, relayed by Soy del Millo.
He further states the South American club are aware their prized asset is in the sights of top clubs across Europe and their desire is to retain him beyond the summer window in the continent.
“They know that for Enzo Fernández they come charging in June. Therefore, the great intention is retaining him,” Yarroch said.
The player, for his part, is ‘comfortable’ at River Plate. However, Yarroch adds ‘it would be difficult’ for the club to ‘retain him’, if one of the interested parties decide to pay his ‘full termination clause’.
According to La Pagina Millonaria, Fernández’s contract runs down in 2025 and it includes a €20m release clause.
