Sometimes it’s only long after a player has retired that failed transfers are confirmed.
They’re freer to speak about what happened during their career and can look back on things with a more measured outlook.
Giuliano Giannichedda played exclusively in Italy during his playing career, including for clubs of the level of Lazio and Juventus. The former midfielder also picked up a few Italy senior caps along the way, and also represented his country at the Olympics.
Things could have been very different, because during his time with the Turin club, Giannichedda was of interest to Everton.
That’s according to the Italian himself, who has been speaking to FootballNews24 in Italy, and brought up Everton when asked if he’d ever had chance to leave Italy and whether he’d consider it in the future as a coach.
FootballNews24 quote him as saying: “When I was playing for Juventus at a certain point there was interest from Everton, I was pleased and I thought about it but in the end nothing materialised, in general I don’t rule out gaining experience abroad but a lot depends on the project and what it promises me, and from the family with whom I want to share these type of choices.”
Giannichedda played for Juventus from 2005-2007, so it will have been during this time that the Toffees were keen, but no deal came to fruition.
