Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães has turned down an approach from Liverpool and has no intention of leaving the Magpies this month.
That’s according to Premier League Brasil, who, in an exclusive, insisting Guimarães won’t be departing St James Park any time soon.
They explain that the Brazilian midfielder has found himself as one of the protagonists of the January transfer window amid suggestions Newcastle need to sell one of their big stars to balance the books in terms of Financial Fair Play and Premier League sustainability rules.
Reports in Spain had indicated Guimarães wants a move and several in France have suggested PSG are interested in making that happen.
“Bruno loves Newcastle, loves the city and wants to stay. Bruno’s only objective is to win titles with Newcastle,” they quote this source as saying.
They then add that, Guimarães even rejected Liverpool in the summer because of his desire to stay in the North East. The Reds reportedly approached Newcastle, but Guimarães stepped in and ‘denied the attack himself’ before the Magpies had even responded.
That tallied with public comments in July 2023 in which he spoke positively about the move and his happiness in Newcastle, a stance which does not appear to have changed despite reports elsewhere this month.
Now, naturally we have to take this with a pinch of salt given the source and perhaps this is just the midfielder’s agents looking to keep their client in a positive light given reports, but it’s worth bearing in mind if those reports continue for the rest of this month.
