On Monday, the Mexican press said Nottingham Forest have made an offer for Feyenoord’s Santiago Giménez.
Later that day, AS stated the Reds are expected to return with an improved bid after the Dutch club rejected their €25m bid. It was also said that negotiations continue between the two clubs.
Speaking to ESPN’s Voetbalpraat, Voetbal International’s Martijn Krabbendam has shared an update on Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of the striker. His quotes are relayed by Voetbal Primeur.
He says the Premier League side were in talks with the 23-year-old’s agents on Monday.
Earlier in this window, Feyenoord sold Mats Wieffer to Brighton & Hove Albion for a club-record fee of €30m. Krabbendam claims the Eredivisie side want to earn more than this from the Mexico international’s sale.
“Today [Monday] negotiations took place all day between Nottingham Forest and Giménez’s agents. It concerns the transfer fee. But they’ll figure it out. If Nottingham offer a little more than Brighton paid for Wieffer and Giménez is going to break the record, then Feyenoord is prepared to let him go.”
The frontman has starred since he joined Feyenoord in 2022 and managed 53 goals and 13 assists from 89 games. His performances have seen him get linked to several clubs, but Nottingham Forest are one the only to have made a concrete attempt so far.
The VI journalist believes the player is likely to accept a move to Nuno Espírito Santo’s side in this window.
“But the player must also want it. That’s what they’re talking about now. For him it is the opportunity to get into the Premier League,” Krabbendam explained.
“It’s very simple: Forest is the only club that is concrete. They don’t have the money in Spain. Nor in Germany. Forest is his ticket to the Premier League, and isn’t that what every player wants? I can’t imagine Giménez saying: I don’t want to go there.”
Krabbendam insists that Nottingham Forest will ‘figure out’ a way to agree a deal with the Dutch club.
