The reports about Manchester City’s interest in Sporting fullback Nuno Mendes became quite interesting over the past few weeks, and we continue to get some updates from the Portuguese media.
We must first recall that this saga has been going on for a few months, with several reports saying that Pep Guardiola’s side were keen on the youngster. Then last week, the Premier League club denied the claims, by contacting several Portuguese outlets.
On the day after Manchester City’s message, outlet Record stood by their report, saying there had been an offer for Mendes, and adding that the pursuit would continue.
Now on Record TV, Record director Sérgio Krithinas showed up to talk more about it.
He claims that Manchester City consider that Nuno Mendes is the only Sporting player who’d have a place to grow in their squad, and adds that Txiki Begiristain ‘appreciates a lot’ the 19-year-old.
Record never hides the fact that the English side denied their interest, and Krithinas says this is something reasonable to do, as the club wouldn’t like to attract more attention and potential competition for the signing.
It’s once again said that Sporting demand €50m for the fullback, and for that reason, Manchester City could leave the signing for January or even for next summer.
