Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has found himself being labelled as a ‘colossus’ as he continues to shine in the Premier League.

That praise comes from Voetbal International journalist Süleyman Öztürk, who is full of praise for the defender as they put him in their team of the week.

Branthwaite has been one of the revelations of a difficult season for Everton, establishing himself in the heart of their defence alongside James Tarkowski.

It’s a role he’s earned on merit, putting in a series of impressive performances in the position that have made a mockery of his age and the fact it’s his first season playing in the Premier League.

He’s been earning rave reviews from all corners, with the same journalists having even confidently likened him to Virgil van Dijk earlier in the campaign.

The youngster has already been linked with a big money move in the summer and a place in England’s squad for Euro 2024, with central defence a problem area for Gareth Southgate.

Whether either of those come to pass remains to be seen but in the meantime the Everton defender continues to earn praise, with the journalists labelling him a ‘colossus’ today.

“There will be €80m bids for Jarrad Branthwaite this summer,” he said.

“If you look at him and pay specific attention to him during a match, you think he’s a giraffe. But he is fast and powerful, he can play football well, he is young and Everton he is really becoming a colossus.

“The development he is going through, first under Van Nistelrooy (at PSV) and then at Everton in the Premier League, now he’s just a big boss at the back at Everton, in a difficult year where you learn a lot.

“Sean Dyche plays a certain type of football which suits him too. I think he is ready for the next step and that €80m wouldn’t be that crazy for him next summer. I would also find it strange if he didn’t go to the Euros.”
