A week can be a long-time in football, and for Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kaua Santos, that’s proven to be the case as defeat to Tottenham Hotspur has proven disastrous for him.

Frankfurter Allgemeine cover an official report from the German club today in which they revealed Santos is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

They have reported that Santos has suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League this week.

That will see him out of action until at least the end of the year, a major blow to the Bundesliga side but also the player himself. Not only will he be out of action for a year, he’s also potentially missed out on a major transfer.

That’s because this week, he was being linked with a big money move to Tottenham. A report in SportBILD on Wednesday explained that Tottenham director of football Johan Lange had been speaking to the club about him.

They detailed how Lange had taken the opportunity, alongside Manchester United’s Christopher Vivell, spoke to Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche about the Brazilian during the quarter-final clash with Tottenham last week.

They both reportedly had him on their radar, with Eintracht Frankfurt eyeing up a €60m deal for their number one.

We were sceptical about the idea, assuming it was the usual German hype, but now we can rule it out entirely as Santos faces a year out with a cruciate ligament injury picked up in a game against the side reportedly interested in him.
