Injuries could see Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen handed his debut by Spain, while wearing the number 14 shirt.
That’s according to COPE, who report that the Bournemouth defender may be in line for his debut after injuries saw Luis de la Fuente’s squad diminished.
They explain that De La Fuenta has ruled out three players from his squad due to injuries, with Real Madrid centre-back Raul Asencio one of them.
All three of the players have been ruled out of the clash with the Netherlands this evening and that could leave Huijsen in line to make his debut. He’s been handed the number 14 in the squad.
Asencio had appeared set for his debut after breaking through at Real Madrid this season, but his injury now means that is likely to be postponed until next Sunday. That is the second leg of their quarter-final clash in the Nations League.
It’s opened the door for Huijsen to make his debut instead, with him having taken up the number 14 shirt usually worn by Aymeric Laporte.
It’ll be a big moment for the Bournemouth man, who, as you are likely aware by now given the extensive coverage it has been given, could have also played for the Netherlands.
He’s instead elected to give his allegiance to Spain and now could be set for his debut after injuries opened the door for him.
