A few days ago Calciomercato.com published an article linking Hakim Ziyech with Everton.

Well, we say article, but we mean sentence. This was it: ‘Hakim Ziyech, a Moroccan midfielder born in 1993 of Ajax, expiring in 2021, is liked by Valencia, West Ham and Everton.’

That was it, and it led to countless English articles on the situation.

Since then the completely separate Calciomercato.it have done some digging and believe they can now explain what the situation actually is.

AS Roma are keen, being led by sporting director Monchi who also considered the player whilst at Sevilla.

At this point there’s been ‘no direct contact’ from Everton on a transfer.

Last year there were some ‘indirect surveys’ to find out information surrounding a potential transfer, but, and this sounds crucial, it’s stated those were at the request of Ronald Koeman.

If any Everton interest was purley from a Koeman perspective, and nothing to do with Steve Walsh, then it’s unlikely there’s anything in this.
