Manchester City loanee Filip Stevanovic scored his first goal in the Eredivisie at the weekend, following his move to Heerenveen last summer.
Despite a good start at the club, the winger had been struggling with his physical condition which took him out of a few games this season. It was first an ankle issue and then Covid-19 that slowed his adaptation to the Dutch side.
That’s why his goal against Willem was a big reason to celebrate, and he showed his happiness in an interview with the local media after the game.
“For me, this is an incredibly beautiful moment,” said Stevanovic (via LC).
“I’ve always remained positive in the past few weeks and I am happy that I have now helped the team. This win is important, because we were going through a difficult period sportingly.”
LLC writes that according to Heerenveen’s staff, the winger had put ‘a lot of pressure on himself’, and now his efforts are paying off.
“I’ve personally had a few ups and downs. But I continued to work hard for the team. I have always felt confidence from the club. Fortunately, I have now been able to pay that back.”
Manchester City spent €8.5m to sign Stevanovic from Real Partizan in January this year. They first let him stay at his club in Serbia, and in the summer sent him to Heerenveen on a two-year loan deal.
As he had already scored in the Dutch Cup, the winger now has two goals and one assist in 10 appearances for his new club, and his development will certainly be watched by Pep Guardiola’s staff.
