Over the past few weeks, we have seen some reports in Italy that Tottenham are interested in signing Adrien Rabiot this summer.
The midfielder’s current contract with Juventus expires at the end of the season, meaning he will be available on a free if he doesn’t extend.
That’s an attractive situation for many clubs, including Tottenham, who will want to bolster their midfield this summer, but the player himself, as explained to the press on Tuesday, isn’t going to make his choice just yet, as relayed by RMC Sport.
Rabiot is currently with the France national team for the international break and was part of the first press conference alongside Warren Zaïre-Emery.
The Tottenham target was asked about his future, and he was surprisingly candid about the process he is going to go through when giving his answer.
He said: “I haven’t decided personally on my future. It’s true that last year I stayed at Juventus knowing I wouldn’t play in Europe. It was an important choice from me. Next year, we should be playing the Champions League and take part in the Club World Cup. These are things that will be considered, but I really haven’t made a decision on that.
“I’m waiting to finish the season and then we’ll talk with the club and I’ll see then. For now, I’m trying to stay focused, to come back from my little niggle, to finish well and to prepare for the Euros well. I’m not in a rush to take a decision. I am going to think a lot because I’m arriving at an important age in my career. I feel good. I’m at my peak and it will be important to make the right choice.”
Whether that is Tottenham remains to be seen, but it has been made clear in the past that Spurs can give him the big contract he will be looking for at 28, knowing that this might be his last chance of playing in the Premier League, which he has never hidden as being a dream of his.
