Feyenoord selling Antoni Milambo to Brentford this summer would be ‘a mortal sin’, as he could be worth even more in future.
That’s according to De Telegraaf journalist Valentijn Driessen, via Voetbal Primeur, who thinks the Dutch side are making a major mistake selling the midfielder to Brentford.
Milambo has been heavily linked with a move to Brentford at the beginning of this month, with it explained that the Bees have moved quickly to wrap up a deal for him ahead of the summer.
That was followed by reports that Milambo had been in England this week with his agents to meet with Brentford and discuss personal terms. All indications are that Brentford are happy to pay him what he wants, with that made clear in initial reports linking them to him.
Indeed, a transfer is not seen as a particularly difficult one to get over the line, with Feyenoord seemingly happy to sell for the right price too. They are believed to be waiting for Brentford to make an official offer for the midfielder.
Driessen has been left particularly unimpressed by the potential transfer, though, believing that Feyenoord are jumping the gun when it comes to the sale.
“I think it’s a mortal sin that you are selling a product of your own academy at this moment, while he is certainly not at his peak yet,” he said.
“If you get this amount, it does not mean that you will ever get this amount. They once experienced that with Nicolai Jørgensen. They were able to sell him to Newcastle United for seventeen or eighteen million euros. He never touched a ball again after that. That’s an ugly scar.”
“Everyone says that Steijn and Milambo can’t play together. Van Persie indicated that he does see a possibility that they can play together. I think they can fit together very well.
“I think it’s a crying shame for Feyenoord and Dutch football that such a boy can so easily end up on the sidelines there. That has already happened to many players who go to the Premier League.”
