It’s no secret that compatriot South Americans who play in the Premier League are often friends, regardless of the clubs they play for.

That is no different with Bruno Guimarães and Douglas Luiz, as the Newcastle United and the Aston Villa stars have shared a good relationship for years now.

The Magpies’ midfielder this week spoke to ESPN Brasil, and had a word about his friend, saying they’ve known each other for a long time and keep that friendship going when they can.

“We have a good relationship, we were Olympic champions, it was the two of us in midfield. We sometimes play video games together, he’s a good guy. I’m really rooting for him. He likes fishing, just like me. He’s a guy who, every now and then, we chat to,” Bruno Guimarães told ESPN Brasil.

Bruno claimed they can’t go fishing together in England, though, as they’re far more used to the Brazilian weather.

“It’s impossible here. What you can do here is stay at home. It’s very cold.”

The subject came up in the interview because of Aston Villa’s match against Newcastle United this week, with the Magpies getting a 3-1 away win.

Aston Villa are now 5th in the Premier League table, and now prepare for Saturday’s match against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Newcastle, meanwhile, stand in 8th place and are in an urge for a recovery to fight for a place in the Champions League again. They’ll be facing Luton Town on Saturday.
