Throughout transfer deadline day, there was still some hope in Lecce that Celtic would grant Gustaf Lagerbielke passage for a transfer to Italy.

However, Brendan Rodgers’ side refused to do so, as Quotidiano di Puglia bring what will be the final update on this rather lengthy and, in the end, rather exciting saga.

The newspaper seem a bit sad, as they explain the chance of signing the Celtic centre-back ‘faded away’ during the last day.

That’s because Celtic ‘decided to remove him’ from the market in the ‘last few hours’ of the winter window, finally putting an end to any chance of the Swede ending up in Italy.

Lagerbielke had seemed all set to go, only for Rodgers and those above to put the brakes on the loan, because of the physical condition of Cameron Carter-Vickers.

This infuriated the defender, who wanted to leave Celtic Park after barely playing since his summer arrival from Elfsborg, but despite many pleas, nothing was to happen, and the player will now have to bide his time in Scotland until the next opportunity to leave comes up.

That, barring a change of events, will be the summer.
