Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie has admitted he is not accustomed to the role he’s been playing for the club this season, but his experience at Udinese is helping him to adapt.

The defender has been speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport about life under Ange Postecoglou and his rapid rise in the Premier League this season.

Udogie joined Tottenham in an €18m deal from Udinese in August 2022 but initially spent his first year back at the Italian club on loan.

He moved to Tottenham permanently in the summer and has been shining ever since, establishing himself as the first choice left-back under Ange Postecoglou.

He’s featured in 82% of the available minutes in the league so far, with only injuries keeping him out of the first team and managed two goals and three assists in his 21 appearances so far.

Those are good numbers for a 21-year-old in his first season at the club, still adapting to life in the Premier League and the manner in which Postecoglou wishes him to play.

That often sees the full-back finding himself further up the pitch than defending, something he admits he is having to get accustomed to, even at this point.

“But the way of defending that I learned in Italy is definitely helping me,” he said.

“I don’t know if it’s the perfect role for me, I’m not used to it. But I’m often there and I’m starting to settle in.”
