Over the past few weeks and months, Liverpool have been reported as being the main competition for Juventus in the race to sign Teun Koopmeiners.
The midfielder is seen as an important target for the Reds, who aren’t done bolstering their midfield after last summer’s mass exodus, and a fee of at least €50m was suggested as being needed to convince Atalanta.
Well, what may work in Liverpool’s favour is that Koopmeiners actually wants a transfer, revealing as much in an interview with De Telegraaf on Thursday.
It has nothing to do with a distaste for Bergamo, where he has loved being, but it appears to be a simple desire for a new challenge.
He said: “I have told Atalanta that I want to make a move next summer, but there has to be something really nice to swap that for Atalanta just like that. My girlfriend and I are having a great time in Italy, but for some clubs in England, I’ll put up with the rain.
“I hope there will be nice options I can think about, and then I hope Atalanta receive a nice amount for me, because I will have had a wonderful time there.”
Therefore, it’s safe to say that a club like Liverpool would likely be welcomed by the Dutch midfielder, not only because of the weather, but because of their status in world football.
However, as he has made clear, he would also expect the Reds to pay up for his services as a nice reward for his current club.
Liverpool have been warned.
