Rasmus Højlund won’t be taking much from Manchester United’s UEFA Europa League run if the club don’t go all the way and win the trophy this season.

Manchester United have certainly had a very difficult campaign, which has been even worse than many would have imagined. Erik ten Hag perhaps shouldn’t have been kept on last summer, and Ruben Amorim has failed to have an immediate impact when it comes to results.

Currently 13th in the Premier League, the Red Devils won’t be qualifying for European competition via domestic football this season, but can still – somehow – secure Champions League should they win the lesser competition.

Disney+ is ‘the home of the Europa League in Denmark and Sweden’ and Rasmus Højlund has been speaking to them ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Lyon this week.

Denmark’s Bold have picked up his comments and the striker believes that the only way this season’s European campaign can be successful for Manchester United is if they win the trophy.

Bold quote him as saying: “If we don’t win the trophy, I wouldn’t say it has a successful European season, because that’s what we’re after.”

On whether such a victory would save the season, Højlund said: “I don’t like the word ‘save’. It means you kind of forget everything else that has happened. It can provide a foundation for next season if we can put some games together.”
