Following the interview given by Lukas Nmecha to Belgian outlet Le Soir this week, it wouldn’t be weird to see the player getting linked to a Burnley move soon.
The 24-year-old talked a lot about his time in Belgium, where he spent the 2020/21 season at Anderlecht, on loan from Manchester City.
There, there was a re-encounter with Vincent Kompany, who had already seen Nmecha at Pep Guardiola’s side and would now have him as one of his players.
Talking to Le Soir, the player only had compliments towards the manager, claiming he hopes to work with the Burnley boss in the future.
“I’m not surprised that Anderlecht goes through ups and downs: every year, you have to rebuild – the year I was there, we were 4 or 5 players on loan – you have to adapt to a new coach. And obviously coach Vincent Kompany played an important role,” Nmecha told Le Soir.
“He supported me, pushed me and gave me confidence in my qualities. He did a good job at Anderlecht and he’s continuing his momentum at Burnley, who are leading in the Championship. I watched several matches, they play good football. One day I’d like to work with him again.”
Manchester City ended up selling Nmecha to Wolfsburg on a €8m deal in the summer of 2021. Since joining the Bundesliga side, the striker has 14 goals and three assists in 61 appearances.
Now in case Kompany has been reading the Belgian media, that’s probably a very good sign that the forward wants to reunite with him, perhaps being an interesting option for Burnley next season following a more than likely promotion to the Premier League.
