Struggling with injuries, Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto missed most of the season, only managing to get 13 appearances for the club so far this campaign.
That’s one of the reasons why, despite having a few caps for Portugal’s first team, he’s now back to the U21 squad, where he presented himself ahead of the upcoming friendlies.
In a press conference (via O Jogo) on Monday, the Wolves player discussed his fitness issues, explaining he’s glad he’s back on playing for Wolves and Portugal.
“Coming back is a source of pride, and I just want to enjoy this moment.
“I had the misfortune to get injured when I was in good form, I missed a lot of games, but now I feel good. I’m very happy to return to the national team.”
Neto also talked about playing for the U21s after his caps for the first team.
“Working with several more experienced players in the firs team helped me a lot, it was a learning experience. I feel that I can show all my teammates that they also have this chance to get there.”
Portugal’s U21 squad will be playing Romania on the 24th, then Norway on the 28th of March, both matches are friendlies. That will certainly help Neto to gain more minutes on the pitch and be fit enough to play for Wolves for 90 minutes again.
Since his return, he’s played against Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Leeds United, but was only used for 45 minutes in each of those games, making it clear he’s not ready for a full match yet.
