Barcelona remain confident of finding an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the sale of Clément Lenglet, according to their president, Joan Laporta.
The centre-back was on loan at the north London club last season, where he made 35 appearances. The latter are trying to buy him permanently in the summer window.
La Vanguardia have published a detailed interview with Laporta, where he talked about the possibility of selling the 28-year-old to Tottenham when discussing the need to lower the La Liga side’s wage bill.
Barca had a few players out on loan, including the Frenchman and his compatriot, Samuel Umtiti. The latter has already terminated his contract.
When asked about others, he said: “I think with Tottenham we will reach an agreement for Lenglet. We also lack Dest. This almost never goes fast. It depends on the other party. For us, they are all cases that would have been solved yesterday.”
On Sunday, AS reported the Catalan club will have to spend €16m on Lenglet’s salary by retaining him in their squad.
Last week, we covered claims made in Spain that Tottenham have already made a €5m bid for the former Sevilla man while Barcelona want at least €10m to sanction his sale.
Laporta’s latest quote will give Spurs encouragement to bring Lenglet back to the club.
