Liverpool and Manchester City are unlikely to face competition from Real Madrid for Celta Vigo star Gabriel Veiga, with the youngster destined for the Premier League.
That’s according to Bernabéu Digital journalists Javier Rubiano, Aitor Bris and Jorge Cascón, who can’t see the 20-year-old ending up at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Veiga is one of the rising stars of European football, with a tally of nine goals and four assists for Celta Vigo in La Liga this season putting him on the radar at all of Europe’s top clubs.
Liverpool and Manchester City have both been credited with an interest, with it stated that City will win the race for his signature as they have more money than anyone else.
The Reds, meanwhile, are said to be willing to pay what it requires to secure Veiga’s signature this summer as Jurgen Klopp plans a major rebuild of his midfield.
They, though, were likely to face competition from Real Madrid, who have recently been credited with an interest despite seemingly being the favourites to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
According to the Bernabéu Digital trio of journalists, though, it is that transfer which makes it more likely for Veiga to end up at either Anfield or the Etihad.
“I think it’s quite clear about Gabri Veiga. He’s going to leave Celta this summer, no matter what. It’s something that his own president, Carlos Mouriño, has said,” Rubiano explained.
“Now the question is to know where he is going. I would rule out Barça, no matter how hard he tries. In Real Madrid I see it very complicated.
“There was talk of Atleti too, but I doubt they’re going to spend €40m on Veiga. I see him at Manchester City or Liverpool.
“I don’t know if it’s Manchester City or Liverpool, but I think Veiga is Premier League material. Basically, because Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world, but there’s not room for everyone,” added Bris.
“He wouldn’t play much here, that’s the way it is. It will depend on what the player wants: to play or wear the shirt of the best team in the world.
“Gabri Veiga to Real Madrid? I think it’s impossible, to be honest. When you have so many midfielders and your priority is Bellingham?” concluded Cascón.
“It doesn’t make sense to go for another player, no matter how good he looks, and even more so when there is no place for him. I find this information very strange; I don’t know if it’s to divert attention, but I think it’s very complicated.”
