Signed from FC Nordsjaelland in the summer for just over £7m, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Simon Adingra was then almost immediately sent to Union SG in Belgium on loan.

The idea here was for him to play regularly, since the feeling was Graham Potter, manager at the time, had better and more experienced options in his squad.

The manager might no longer be there, since replaced by Roberto De Zerbi, but the Brighton loanee is still in Belgium, and he’s performing very well.

The young Ivorian has scored four goals and assisted another five in 15 games so far, and has drawn a lot of praise with his showings on the pitch.

He has two goals and four assists in his last four games for the Belgium side, and, speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, relayed by Walfoot, the player explained what the plan was.

He said: “I need to prove myself in Belgium to have a chance at Brighton. Football here is even more physical than in Denmark. I can get a lot of experience here, especially because Union play in Europe. It’s a new challenge.”

Adingra is only loaned by Brighton until the end of the season, meaning De Zerbi will have a chance to work with him next summer once he returns from Belgium.

Depending on how he continues at Union and what Leandro Trossard ends up doing, perhaps the 20-year-old could get an early opportunity at the Amex next season?
