Just before arriving at Manchester United in January, Wout Weghorst was having a spell at Besiktas.
The striker had been loaned by Burnley to the Turkish side, and with Erik ten Hag’s call to join the Red Devils, he ended up moving to Old Trafford in the middle of the season.
Weghorst was now interviewed by Tivibu Spor (via Tele1), and despite feeling good at Manchester United, he claimed to miss Besiktas and their fans.
“To be honest with the Besiktaş fans, I had an incredible time there. I left the team all of a sudden, I didn’t get a chance to talk to them. I miss them, I had a great time there.”
“Their behavior towards me was wholehearted, I miss them all. This is a great club. Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I had a really good reason to leave Turkey. I hope everyone understands this.”
Since joining Manchester United in January, Weghorst has two goals and three assists in 23 appearances.
The 30-year-old is loaned by Burnley until the end of the season, and it’s still unclear whether he’ll have any chances to stay with the Red Devils following the spell.
Weghorst certainly helps Manchester United more often without the ball than with it, and despite helping the high pressure made by Erik ten Hag’s side, he certainly leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to scoring goals.
In case the Red Devils decide not to buy him from Burnley in the summer, perhaps Besiktas could then find another chance of signing him.
