Julen Lopetegui took charge at Wolverhampton Wanderers after the World Cup, more than a month after he was appointed as Bruno Lage’s successor at the Molineux.

In his first transfer window at the Premier League side, the manager brought in several new faces to the club, including Pablo Sarabia, as the winger joined Wolves from PSG on permanent transfer.

AS have interviewed the 30-year-old, where he explained the reason for leaving PSG for Wolves in the last window.

“It was clear to me that I had to leave Paris. I wasn’t having minutes. Being in the best stage of my career, I felt bad having to wait on the bench for the opportunity to play when the top three were injured… It is an atypical situation, I wanted to play,” he said.

Christophe Galtier didn’t rely upon the Spain international at Parc des Princes this season as he handed the attacker only three league starts.

When AS asked if he had no choice but to leave PSG for Wolves, Sarabia explained: “I already knew what was there. I had to experience the same thing two years ago. I didn’t want that situation, that’s why I made the determination to leave earlier too. Now I have repeated going to the Wolves and I am excited.”

The former Sevilla man’s decision to join Wolves has paid off as he’s been a regular under Lopetegui this year, managing a goal from 12 matches, and the player has already clocked in more minutes at the Premier League side than he had at PSG this season.

That’s why Sarabia is delighted to have swapped the Ligue 1 side for Wolves.

“It has been a year of many changes. I landed back in Paris after having been in Lisbon, then we went to the World Cup, then I signed for Wolverhampton, then… I had twins! I am very happy to have come to England to this club, with the coach, with my teammates, everything is positive for me. It’s very familiar. That is appreciated,” he stressed.
