New Burnley signing Quilindschy Hartman has sent a message to Feyenoord fans after he secured his move to Turf Moor today.

ESPN Netherlands cover comments from the new Burnley signing today in which he says he hopes Feyenoord fans can understand his decision to depart.

Burnley completed a deal for the 23-year-old today after pushing to secure his signature this week. The Clarets did not announce a transfer fee, but reports have indicated that he is costing them around €12m.

The move has caused some anger at Feyenoord, where sections of the fanbase have accused Hartman of engineering the move for his own good. That comes on the back of reports that he refused to sign a new deal at the club, with his current contract expiring in 2026.

That has essentially forced Feyenoord to sell this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year and given Burnley their chance to sign the full-back.

That deal has now been done and in parting words to his now former club, Hartman has admitted that he hopes Feyenoord’s fans can understand his choice.

“I have really enjoyed myself. Not just the last three years, but my whole life,” he said.

“But the last three years in particular. I can’t even name so many beautiful moments in such a final message.

“I am now very grateful for all the love when things were going well, also when things were going badly with my injury. I have had so many messages from you.

“And I sincerely hope that you understand me and that you grant me the best. And I also really sincerely hope that I will come back later. I think soon as a supporter, but hopefully later also as a player, so thank you.”
