Royal Antwerp’s George Ilenikhena has opened the door to joining Manchester United in the future.
Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, the 17-year-old made it clear that Manchester United are his favourtie team and that he wants to make a switch to the Premier League in the future.
The Nigerian arrived in Europe for the first time when Amiens signed him in 2021. He was promoted to their senior team a year later and his displays convinced the Jupiler Pro League side to sign the striker last summer.
Ilenikhena rejected Juventus and Marseille to join Royal Antwerp as he believes the latter are an “ideal” club for him to then make a big move elsewhere.
He’s scored nine goals from 27 games and that includes a winner against Barcelona in the Champions League last month.
When explaining about the goal he scored against the La Liga side, the frontman revealed his admiration for former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.
“He is the best footballer of all time. He inspires others and is also a good person off the field. I watch his videos all the time. So, it should come as no surprise that Manchester United are my favourite club, right? Cristiano played there, didn’t he? But I also really like Mbappé or Haaland.”
The youngster’s contract at Royal Antwerp lasts until 2027 but that didn’t stop him from sharing his future plans.
“Where do I want to be in five years? I hope for the Premier League. That competition really appeals to me,” Ilenikhena explained.
“You never know which team will win, almost every match is exciting. It’s fun to watch. The way of playing football, the fans, the experience, the atmosphere.”
Ilenikhena needs to continue impressing for Royal Antwerp, if he wants to catch the attention of Manchester United or other Premier League clubs.
