As Chelsea and Liverpool continue to be named as two potential destinations for Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez, the player has now spoken to his home country’s media about his future.
The winger was interviewed by ESPN Argentina, and ended up revealing some long-term plans he has for his career.
Gonzalez said he;s a River Plate fan, and that he’d like to play for the Buenos Aires side one day.
“I really want to play for River. I want my brother to see me in that shirt. It would be very special. But today I’m in Europe. One day I hope it will come true,” Gonzalez told ESPN.
“I wouldn’t go to River for a walk. You have to win everything. I would love to win the Copa Libertadores and the championship. It would be very nice.”
When quoting the player, ESPN makes sure to says that Chelsea and Liverpool both want him.
The latest reports from the Italian media said that Fiorentina will demand something between €55m and €60m for Gonzalez next year.
Those claims also named Chelsea and Liverpool as the main contenders, so we could soon see Blues and Reds competing for the winger.
Despite being a River Plate fan, Gonzalez never had the chance to play for the Millonario because he started his career at Argentinos Juniors’ academy. There he was sold to VfB Stuttgart in a €11.2m deal in 2018, having switched to Fiorentina in a €24.5m transfer in 2021.
