Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos was this week interviewed by Portuguese outlet Sports Tailors, in their Final Cut show.
The 29-year-old, who last summer left Benfica for the Tricky Trees, talked about his start in the Premier League and especially about the decision to move to England.
Vlachodimos claims he didn’t hesitate once he received Nottingham Forest’s offer, as being in the Premiership was an objective he had.
“I think it was the right timing, also for me, to make the next step. And I think the next step is the Premier League. When I got the offer, it was also like clear to me. I wanted to do that next step, I wanted to be in the best league in the world. And I also feel like I gave a lot to Benfica and I think it was the right timing to go,” said Vlachodimos.
“Of course, my head is always there where I am (laughs). So in that part of the season, it was in pre-season or in the first games, my head was totally in Benfica. But when the offer came, and I had the chance to go to the best league in the world, I wanted to take the chance and wanted to see the Premier League, to not miss out on that experience.”
Vlachodimos says he’s had the chance to practice his Portuguese at Nottingham Forest, because of the Brazilian players in the squad. Now with Nuno Espírito Santo in charge, that should help him, and he had a word about what he expects from the manager.
“Well, I think it’s good because we have great potential in the team, in the squad. I think we just have to bring everything together now on the pitch, and I think he seems the right person to do it. So let’s see.”
Nottingham Forest spent €4.9m to sign Vlachodimos from Benfica at the start of the season. So far, he only made five appearances for the club, as he was Steven Cooper’s number one in some consecutive matches between November and December.
