Amid the heavy links with Chelsea, Palmeiras wonderkid Estevão Willian took part in the Copa Libertadores clash against Liverpool last night.
Even playing away from home, his side beat the Uruguayans 5-0, with the youngster getting 62 minutes on the pitch.
After the match, Estevão was interviewed by the Brazilian media, and was asked about the Chelsea rumours. Speaking to Paramount, in quotes relayed by Globo Esporte, the player tried to dodge the question a little.
“My mind is 100% on Palmeiras. I don’t think about that. I just think about how I can do my best on the pitch and how I can help Palmeiras. I try my hardest on the pitch to bring joy to the Palmeiras fans,” said Estevão.
Covering the quotes, Globo Esporte highlights that Chelsea are the favourites to sign Estevão, despite the many contacts that Palmeiras have been getting from other European clubs.
It’s once again said that the recent discussions are about the money the Blues should pay up front, as despite the player’s €45m release clause, Palmeiras are trying to get €60m. And they’re not talking about bonuses, as the Brazilian club’s idea is to ‘guarantee’ that amount.
Estevão’s staff reportedly find Chelsea’s project ‘interesting’, and that’s why they have an advantage, even though his club is not in a hurry to get the sale done.
