One of the louder transfer stories of the window was Milan’s pursuit of Fikayo Tomori, which only came about following an injury to Mohamed Simakan.
The defender was lacking game time under Frank Lampard at Chelsea, and while the club weren’t keen on losing him permanently, they did admit he needed to play more so as to help him continue his development.
Milan were prepared to give him that, and despite talks taking a while, a move was organised, with the player now being presented to the media on Thursday following the transfer.
One of the big questions was why did he choose Milan.
He replied, relayed by Milan News: “Many great defenders have played at Milan such as Maldini, Nesta and Baresi. I want to be part of the history of Milan. Since the first day, I’ve breathed the tradition of this club. I’m convinced I’ve made the right decision to come here. I want to participate in the successes of Milan”.
Speaking of Maldini, the former defender is one of the men in charge of transfers at San Siro these days, meaning he was behind the Serie A side’s pursuit of the Chelsea man.
That was key for Tomori.
He added: “Maldini was one of the greatest defenders ever. He surprised me when he called me, but I didn’t take long before saying yes”.
As for the advice Thiago Silva, currently at Chelsea and previously of Milan, gave him before the move, Tomori said the Brazilian ‘reassured’ him and only told him ‘wonderful things’ about the club.
