RB Salzburg striker Noah Okafor remains being a top target in the transfer market, with rumours linking him to many clubs, including from the Premier League.
Newcastle United are one of the sides who’ve been said to be pursuing the 23-year-old, with reports revealing the that interest back in the last summer.
It turns out that the Magpies did make an attempt to buy him an year ago. That was revealed by Okafor himself in a chat with Say Less podcast, relayed by Sky Sport Austria.
The centre-forward claimed that many clubs tried to take him from RB Leipzig in 2022, and the Magpies were one of them.
“I had a lot of offers, four or five for sure. Newcastle were there, West Ham were there, Dortmund a bit too.”
“Suddenly it started, I had so many clubs. I think Newcastle bid €38m. I didn’t even know. Salzburg always said: We want you to stay.”
It seems Newcastle’s interest in Okafor didn’t go away, because in the past few months, reports continued to claim that the Magpies, as well as Tottenham, are still interested in the player.
Those reports, however, had been mentioning the striker as a potential €25m signing.
Now that we know how much RB Salzburg had turned down for his sale, it seems the Magpies better get prepared to spend more.
