Two days ago, L’Equipe reported Crystal Palace are ahead in the race for VfL Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix this summer. It was also stated the Eagles made contact and tabled an offer to sign him.
On Thursday, Kicker said the Bundesliga side have no knowledge of Crystal Palace’s approach for the 24-year-old.
WAZ relay claims made elsewhere that Crystal Palace have already agreed a deal with the player.
Oliver Glasner has managed the Frenchman at Wolfsburg and seems to be keen on reuniting with his former player at Selhurst Park this summer.
At this moment in time, WAZ say the German club haven’t yet received an offer for the centre-back from Crystal Palace or another club. Lacroix has less than a year left on his deal and Wolfsburg’s desire is to tie him down to a new deal.
WAZ say the defender is valued at least at €20m and therefore, losing him for free next year will be a blow for the club.
Meanwhile, Wolfsburg manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has confirmed his plan to make Lacroix the deputy captain to Maximilian Arnold..
Hasenhüttl is hopeful the player will continue at the club amid claims of him agreeing a deal with Crystal Palace.
“I assume that he will stay with us. The preparation is pretty far advanced. It would be anything but helpful if he were to leave us now. I think he sees that something is happening here. That also helps him to say: OK, I can definitely imagine going into the coming season with VfL. That could certainly appeal to him,” he said, as quoted by WAZ.
