Aston Villa star Philippe Coutinho is set to miss the World Cup, according to reports from Brazil.

After being absent from the match against Manchester United at the weekend, several stories have been popping up about how serious could be the midfielder’s injury, and how long would he be out.

And according to TNT Sports correspondents Barcelo Bechler and Fred Caldeira, there will be no time for Coutinho to recover before the national team’s tournament in Qatar.

They point out that after missing Aston Villa’s last match because of a thigh injury, he’s actually set to be sidelined for ‘at least’ six weeks.

There had been many doubts regarding Coutinho’s presence in the World Cup.

Even though he’s recently been called up by Brazil manager Tite, we’ve covered in the past few weeks several people from the Brazilian media claiming he does not deserve a place in the squad, as there are other players from the position who’ve been in better form lately.

Featuring for Aston Villa this season, Coutinho has no goals or assists in 13 appearances.
