The deal which took Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa to Juventus then saw the Premier League club buy two players from the Turin side.
As the Brazilian continues to struggle in Italy, Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior were both loaned out by Villa quickly as they were not part of Unai Emery’s plans this season.
Barrenechea joined Valencia to much excitement from local fans who need some good news in their football lives. He scored his first goal for the club against Getafe at the weekend.
Los Che don’t play in Europe and challenging for the La Liga title is nearly impossible, winning the Copa del Rey is their only shot at silverware as they battle against relegation. Barrenechea has made his ambitions about winning the trophy clear.
Ahead of Valencia’s upcoming Copa del Rey first round game against Parla Escuela tomorrow, the Argentine spoke to the club’s official website.
He said: “We are already thinking about Wednesday and then about Saturday. We are going to compete in the best way to go as far as possible in the Cup. Valencia CF’s history demands it.”
Winning the trophy when the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are in the competition will be quite an achievement for Valencia.
Barrenechea has played seven times in the league so far for the Spanish side, featuring in all but one game.
