This week there’s been some rather sensible reporting on the future of Christian Eriksen.
Firstly, Mundo Deportivo published an article explaining that given all the rumours about supposed interest, Eriksen had asked his agent to find out if Barcelona are genuinely keen.
It was explained how difficult a transfer would be, and Eriksen wasn’t presented as being desperate, he just wanted to know… which is fair enough.
Then, Denmark’s Ekstra Bladet started to explain that the Barcelona dream looks to be dying. Eriksen to Barcelona is a much wanted move in Denmark because of the country’s connection with the club through Allan Simonsen and Michael Laudrup.
The Danish newspaper ended their article with: ‘He will certainly not be cheap, so it indicates that FC Barcelona deselects Christian Eriksen, who, in turn, can look forward to both CL participation and a wage increase when returning to Tottenham after the World Cup.’
Now Catalan newspaper Sport are on the case. The journalist running the story explains what a big fan he is of Eriksen and how the player would have fit the club perfectly if circumstances were different.
Barcelona have made clashing signings and there’s not really a place for the Spurs player, and then there’s the matter of cost: ‘And the second big problem for the arrival of the Dane is the price that Tottenham would surely request, and it’s very clear that it would be very high, with a very high signing bonus for the player, and that’s after the club’s existing salaries, and even more with the possible arrival of Griezmann and with his salary, it turns into an impossible signing.’
