This week, reports in the European media reawakened rumours about Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest interest in Santos youngster Angelo.
Those stories didn’t make such noise in the English media, but were well covered in Brazil, especially because Flamengo are also chasing the player.
It turns out that website Premier League Brasil went after more information, and managed to speak to Angelo’s agent, Marisa Alija, about the potential interest from Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.
The representative actually turned down the rumours, claiming the winger is planning to leave Brazil right now.
“At the moment, it’s all speculation. There’s nothing. Angelo doesn’t even talk about playing abroad, he talks a lot about Santos, he’s focused here. Now that he’s at Santos, he doesn’t think about that,” Marisa Alija told Premier League Brasil.
Newcastle and Nottingham Forest had indeed been linked to Angelo in the past few months, and were actually the two European sides who were reported to have engaged in talks with Santos lately.
At the end of the January transfer window, it had even been claimed that the Tricky Trees made an offer for the youngster, but their wish to pay for the transfer in several instalments is why the deal collapsed.
Recent reports from Brazil have been saying Flamengo are pushing hard to get Angelo signed, so if English clubs are interested, they better hurry up.
