Now set to hold his starting spot in the national team, Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson held a press conference in Brazil.
The 30-year-old is now expected to find a more similar way of playing for club and country, as Pep Guardiola and Fernando Diniz share some ideas in common which will lead him to have the ball more.
Quoted by Globo Esporte, Ederson answered a lot of questions about that. He recalled it’s been a long time since he started playing that way at Manchester City, and is happy to bring that style to the national team.
“At the start of City I ended up using my feet a lot more than my hands because of the way we played, which was a surprise for the opposition, a style of football they weren’t used to. Now the level has changed completely, the teams practise our way of playing a lot more.
“It’s not something that bothers me, I’m there to do my job and of course I like to play a lot more in games. Concentrating for 90 minutes and not having a single ball arrive is much more difficult than when there are more of them.”
Since Manchester City are always attacking, he also revealed that he needed some extra help to concentrate, as he may only have a few saves to make in each game.
“Staying focused all the time is very difficult. I’ve experienced that at City. I’ve added cognitive work that helps work my brain. This is work that I’ve brought into my career and my professional life that has helped me a lot.”
Ederson was also asked about running for the best goalkeeper in the world, and is obviously happy about that.
“I’m very happy to be running. I’m a guy who has prepared a lot and dedicated a lot of myself to get where I am today. God has enabled me and honoured me in the less good moments of my career and life. This is thanks to him and my family.”
Ederson was a starter in Brazil’s last four games, and it doesn’t seem like Alisson is getting his place back anytime soon. They’ll be facing Venezuela and Uruguay in the upcoming rounds of the World Cup qualifiers.
