Sent off against Liverpool, Paul Pogba missed the 3-0 win over Tottenham in the Premier League and was again unavailable for the derby against Manchester City.

That game finished 2-0 in favour of Pep Guardiola’s side, and there was certainly a feeling of a presence missing in midfield, which the Frenchman could have helped with.

Either way, his current situation didn’t stop him from being called up to the France national team, where he’ll be able to relax a bit, away from all the pressure currently being heaped on Manchester United in England.

That’s, at least, what Didier Deschamps hinted at in his press conference ahead of his team’s upcoming clash against Kazakhstan.

He said, relayed by RMC Sport: “He’s one of the players that arrive when things aren’t going as well. It’s another context and we know the importance of Paul with Les Bleus. He’s a figurehead, a leader. It’s not the same situation as in Manchester.

“On top of that, he was on a red card and a three game suspension. He’ll be happy to be here. He’s also got experience despite this deficit with his club”.

Perhaps this is exactly what the Frenchman needs to restore himself ahead of a return to Manchester United in a week or so, where he’ll miss the game against 17th placed Watford before likely returning to the starting line up for the Champions League clash against Villarreal.

The midfielder also has a contract situation to sort out, with his current deal at Old Trafford expiring in the summer and no renewal on the horizon as of yet.
