Liverpool are reportedly losing the race for Hector Herrera. The battle with Napoli to sign the Porto midfielder has been commented on for a few days, but the Reds are still to make an official bid.
According to A Bola, Napoli have agreed terms with Herrera’s staff and now try to reach a deal with Porto. The Mexican international is expected to earn €1.8m per season in Italy.
But they now need to convince the Portuguese side. Porto want at least €25m for the 26-year-old, since they know it would be impossible to get something near his €40m release clause, especially after another ‘poor’ season from the player, A Bola says.
The fact that Liverpool are still interested in Herrera encourages Porto to ask Napoli for more money. But the possibility of the midfielder signing for Jurgen Klopp’s club isn’t really taken seriously by the Portuguese newspaper.
