Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey hasn’t had an impressive season so far.

He has only two goals in all competitions and injury issues have disrupted his form and progress at the Birmingham club, with the winger last featuring in the Premier League in early March.

It now seems as if things aren’t going great for Bailey off the pitch either, with the 27-year-old now being chased in Belgium for allegedly causing damage to a property he used to rent.

Het Belang Van Limburg report that last week, it emerged that the ex-Bayer Leverkusen star left behind a debt of €67k in Genk after his move to the Bundesliga. ‘He refuses to pay’ that amount, which is causing some discomfort and embarassment at the Belgian club.

Genk have now put a specific team in place that helps players deal with off-field issues, partly to ensure these issue don’t come up again.

They indicate that no other problem such as this one has emerged since. Player supervisor Sylvio Garcia spoke to HBVL and stated:

“We try to visit the players once a month. That way, we keep an eye on things. If necessary, we switch immediately and inform the sports director or trainers. But honestly: we have hardly had any problems in recent years.”

Aston Villa would hope that this problem doesn’t escalate and their player isn’t criticised further in the Belgian press, especially when he has had a disappointing campaign.
