After having spent heavily in bringing new faces to the club, Real Madrid are planning to raise funds by offloading a few of their current players in the summer transfer window.

Even before the 2018/19 season was concluded, Toni Kroos was one of the players pushed towards the exit door by the Spanish press.

El Confidencial reported in April that Pep Guardiola loves the midfielder and the manager has opened Manchester City’s door for the 29-year-old, if he decides to leave the La Liga giants.

Kroos left Bayern Munich and made a switch to the Spanish capital in 2014 and in his final season at the Allianz Arena, the Germany international played under the guidance of Guardiola.

Sport Bild sat down for an interview with the 2014 World Cup winner and during the course of the chat, the player was asked about the speculations suggesting Guardiola wants to bring him to the Etihad.

Kroos said, “In fact, you [Sport Bild] have written about it more times in the past. But it was never a question about whether I am coming to City or not. I can refute these rumours.”

The rumours around Kroos’ future were largely put to bed on May 20th when Real Madrid confirmed he has signed a new deal to extend his stay until 2023.
