Barcelona are joined by Manchester City in the race for Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who state the Citizens are ‘lurking’ to sign the 28-year-old.
The report mainly focuses on the La Liga side’s desire to secure the midfielder’s services and mentions Manchester City as their competitor at the end.
Kimmich is ‘upset’ with Julian Nagelsmann’s exit and is ‘seriously considering leaving’ the Bavarian club in the summer. This has excited the Blaugrana as everyone within the Camp Nou appreciates him.
Barca’s project under Xavi Hernández pleases the Germany international, who would be a perfect fit for the Catalan club.
His contract lasts until 2025 and it won’t be easy to take the player away from Bayern. At the same time, the Bundesliga side have shown in recent years that they aren’t willing to keep unhappy players at the club.
Barca believe they could get Kimmich for less than €60m, which is the fee needed to sign Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi.
Xavi’s side must quickly try to convince the German because they are aware Manchester City are ‘interested in signing him’. Pep Guardiola knows Kimmich well from his time at Bayern and was a key figure in his career.
It’s claimed the Manchester City manager ‘wouldn’t hesitate to meet him again’, especially if İlkay Gündoğan doesn’t sign an extension at the Etihad.
Last month, Austria manager Ralf Rangnick admitted Guardiola has fallen in love with Manuel Akanji, just like how he “fell in love” with Kimmich at Bayern.
