Over the last few weeks, we have covered claims from Spain that Manchester City have tabled an offer for Atletico Madrid’s Rodri and are willing to pay his €70m release clause.

Tuesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo once again explain the Premier League winners have made an offer for the midfielder and Pep Guardiola is ‘putting a lot of effort’ in helping his side secure the 22-year-old’s services.

Los Rojiblancos, on the other hand, are keen on holding onto the Spaniard, which is why they have offered him a new contract, which includes both an improved salary as well as a higher buyout clause.

Diego Simeone will see his side part ways with Lucas Hernandez, Filipe Luis, Diego Godin, Juanfran and Antoine Griezmann, meaning their wage bill will be reduced, which will, in turn, allow them to offer a better deal to the former Villarreal man.

The manager has already informed the player that he counts on him and is hoping for him to continue with the La Liga side.

At Wanda Metropolitano, they want Rodri to make a decision on whether he wants to continue at Atletico or wants to leave the club, which would likely be for City.

The Catalan newspaper explains this is a ‘decisive week’ in regards to Rodri’s future.
