Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has long been linked with a move to Barcelona as they look to strengthen the squad to improve their chances of winning the Champions League next season.

Today’s edition of Catalan newspaper Sport claims if Barcelona fail to secure the services of the former Real Sociedad star, they will then turn their attention towards Christian Eriksen. The Danish International is one of the alternatives, if the La Liga winners fail to land their French first choice.

They are looking for the profile of those players who can operate in more than one position. The profiles of Griezmann and Eriksen are not the same, but that hasn’t stopped Barcelona from identifying him as a target.

Should Griezmann decide against joining Barcelona, then their January signing Philippe Coutinho will form a partnership with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to lead the attack and Eriksen will be identified as a midfield target. They seem to have forgotten about Ousmane Dembele.

The Spanish champions are aware that any approach from Eriksen will not be easy as they have to deal with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. In addition to this, it’s explained Mauricio Pochettino was promised the star players like Harry Kane, Dele Allli and Eriksen will be retained when he signed a new contract at Tottenham.

Ten days ago the same Catalan newspaper described signing Eriksen as ‘impossible’ and explain it was a transfer that had seemed a nice idea a few times but never got beyond that. Even the Danish media chose this month to give up on their dream transfer, now they’ll be enthusiastic about this rumour, although calmed a little by the content of the big splash.
