Arne Slot made the right decision to turn down Leeds United this month, as he wouldn’t have been able to implement his style of football at Elland Road.

That’s according to Voetbal International journalists Simon Zwartkruis and Marco Timmer, who believe he was too good for Leeds anyway.

Slot was heavily linked with the Leeds job over the last week after the Whites sacked Jesse Marsch following a poor run of form in recent months.

After failing to lure Andoni Iraola from Rayo Vallecano they turned to Slot, who has been impressing with Feyenoord this season and has them two points clear at the top of the Eredivisie after 21 games.

Leeds made an approach to Feyenoord for their manager but it was swiftly rejected, with Slot later confirming that he himself preferred to stay where he was and continue the job he is doing, at least until the end of the season.

That’s left Leeds scrambling for alternatives and plenty of coverage of the situation in the Netherlands since.

Zwartkruis and Timmer are the latest to comment, insisting that Slot was too good for Leeds in the first place.

“Yes, I do think so,” Feyenoord Pings report Zwartkruis saying when asked if it was a ‘wise decision’ to turn down the offer.

“If you see how he is developing as a trainer, I don’t think it will be long before clubs of greater stature come to him.

“He can’t play Slot football there if he goes there in between. In his follow up choice, he has to choose a club where he can play his football,” stated Timmer.

“Agreed, at Leeds United you have to play survival football now,” concluded his Zwartkruis.

“I think he is too good to go to Leeds United. I know he can earn a lot there, but he will get that in time. I would first see what you can achieve with Feyenoord.”
